EARTH OBSERVATION

Satellite and raster intelligence,
inside the GIS workflow.

GeoLayers connects STAC discovery, raster viewing, spectral analysis, change detection and zonal statistics to the same project environment used for vector GIS and planning.

EARTH OBSERVATION WORKFLOW

From satellite scene to project-ready intelligence

GeoLayers Earth Observation & Raster Intelligence is built for users who need to discover imagery, inspect raster data, derive indicators and publish results back into a GIS project.

STAC discovery

Search compatible STAC catalogues by collection, date, cloud cover and map extent, then inspect the assets associated with a scene.

Raster viewer

Load local GeoTIFFs or compatible remote COG/GeoTIFF sources, inspect pixels, calculate statistics and create RGB composites.

N

Spectral indices

Calculate NDVI, NDWI, NDBI and SAVI using detected or manually assigned multispectral bands.

Δ

Change & zonal analysis

Compare two dates, calculate raster change and summarise raster values across project polygons.

ANALYSIS PIPELINE

A practical Earth Observation sequence

The module supports a repeatable path from source imagery to a mapped analytical result.

Find or load imageryUse STAC discovery or add a raster source that is suitable for the geography, date and analytical question.
Inspect and prepareReview raster dimensions, bands and value distributions; create an RGB composite or assign spectral bands as needed.
Derive informationCalculate indices or raster expressions, compare dates and inspect the distribution of the output.
Connect to GISPublish WGS84-compatible outputs to the GeoLayers map and use project polygons for zonal interpretation.
WHAT YOU CAN MEASURE

Use raster data to observe conditions that vector data may miss

Earth Observation is especially useful where the question changes through time or across continuous surfaces.

  • Vegetation condition and relative greenness using NDVI or SAVI.
  • Water-related signals using NDWI and built-up patterns using NDBI.
  • Before/after differences for land-cover disturbance, development or environmental monitoring.
  • Raster statistics and histograms for inspecting distributions before interpreting results.
  • Polygon-based summaries for municipalities, farms, sites, service areas or study zones.
  • Local and remote imagery sources without forcing the user into a separate desktop workflow.
DESIGNED FOR THE WEB

Fast enough for exploratory and project analysis

Browser processing is intentionally bounded. Large rasters are sampled to a manageable analysis grid so users can work interactively, while source-resolution production processing can remain in specialist or server workflows where required.

Interactive exploration

Rapidly compare imagery, test indices and inspect spatial patterns before committing to a heavier workflow.

Project context

Use the same map, polygons and project layers that already support the rest of the GeoLayers analysis.

Reusable outputs

Take raster-derived findings into cartography, dashboards, planning analysis or decision-support workflows.
