Getting Started with GeoLayers
Learn the Studio layout by creating a project and taking data from upload to a saved map.
1. Open or create a projectSign in, create a cloud project and confirm the Studio opens with the map, Contents panel and Apps/Geoprocessing panel available.
2. Add a layerUse Add Data or Data Manager to load a small vector dataset. Rename it clearly and inspect its geometry type and fields.
3. Work with the mapTurn visibility on/off, zoom to the layer, open the attribute table and make a simple selection or query.
4. Save useful contextCreate a bookmark or snapshot and confirm the project can be reopened with the map state and layers still available.
5. Open a specialist appChoose one app—GeoAI, Earth Observation, GeoML or Mobility—and inspect how it uses the same project context.
GOOD PRACTICE
What to check before you finish
A tutorial is complete when the user can explain the result, not just reproduce the clicks.
- Keep source data and assumptions visible in the project.
- Use clear layer and field names that will still make sense when the project is reopened.
- Inspect attributes and metrics before interpreting a visual result.
- Save or publish outputs in a form that can be reviewed by another person.
CHECK YOUR WORK
Common quality checks before you move on
A few checks can prevent a technically correct workflow from becoming a misleading output.
- Confirm the project is actually saved before closing the browser.
- If a layer does not display, inspect geometry type, extent and coordinate context.
- Use clear layer names early; generic upload names quickly become confusing in larger projects.
